Tiberius "Ty" Cloudkicker was conceptualized over the course of a few days, though it began on October 6th, 2019 with a sleep-deprived, autism-fueled, rambling conversation between Lolly and Artsy (which was mostly lead by Lolly), during which the two were trying to think up the type of person Louie Duck would most likely end up with while talking about potential futures for the Duck kids. The real spark was creating a potential parallel between Louie and his future partner, and Scrooge and Goldie, given how many parallels to Scrooge DT17 already gives the Duck kids (and especially Louie).
Originally, Lolly had thought of pairing Louie off with Kit Cloudkicker - his characterization in Talespin fit the bill for what we were going for, and at the age of 12, he'd only be 1-2 years older than the Duck triplets. Only problem was, that by late 2019, we already had promotional materials for season 3 of DT17, and those promotional materials showed Kit Cloudkicker and Molly Cunningham as adults.
Ah, well. On the spot, Lolly came up with the solution to make an original character to be Kit's son, and so, Ty Cloudkicker was born!
As per Lolly's words:
The fact that we made Ty into an OC made things WAY better cuz it opened up for way more creative freedom. He wasn't confined to the restraints of canon characterization and I could do whatever I wanted with him. This early stage of his characterization was definitely inspired by young Kit from Talespin but he became so much more than that. Artsy had started designing him the day after and then drew up a bunch of him. Which just added fuel to the fire. The next few days I spurted out essays upon essays about Ty. Everything about him. He was a fully realized person within a week. There's so much life to this kid, I stg. I'm really excited for the comic to explore every facet of him. He has a lot of facets.
As for who Ty is, in universe, he was adopted by Kit shortly after the events of The Lost Cargo of Kit Cloudkicker! when Kit caught him pitpocketing him. Since beforehand he was mostly fending for himself on the streets and in an over-crowded orphanage, Ty ended up developing a habit and talent for stealing without anyone noticing. His mild kleptomania made him unpopular among his peers once he entered public school, and so, he doesn't have any friends his age (the majority of his social interaction is with his family or family friends - and of course, his pet red-kneed tarantula, Banana!).
Ty, his dad, aunt Molly, and great-uncle Wildcat all moved to Duckburg around a year after his adoption as a business opportunity for Danger Woman's Sky Circus and as an education opportunity for Ty. Since then, he's been slowly but surely improving his social skills and repressing his habit of stealing. This is, of course, until a certain green-clad Duck enters his life.
